Skidbrooke Church, Lincs

Location: Skidbrooke Church, Lincolnshire

Date: 16 November 2007

Time: 2300 Hours

E.M.F. Reading: 0.0

Temperature reading: 2.4 Degrees Centigrade

Investigators: Richard, Joe & Mike

Equipment used: E.M.F, Digital Cameras, Digital voice recorders, Night Vision Camcorders, Thermometer, Torches.

Experiments: E.M.F

Overview:

Skidbrooke Church is an abandoned church deep in Lincolnshire not far from the east coast, the whole place has an eerie feel about it as you approach but once inside, does feel quite calm.

The church is isolated in and is surrounded by a small cluster of trees with a small grave yard which compliments it.

The church gained the name as the Demon church as it was regularly used by Satanists in the latter part of the 70's and 80's.  Many paranormal groups have visited and reported the place to be quite active.

The Investigation:

Upon arriving at the location, it was a cold night, we started by getting ourselves familiar with the area before settling down to conduct the vigil.

The only areas we could investigate were the main church room and the grounds. The upstairs is inaccessible due to compulsory repairs to roof to shelter it from the rain and taken place so no upper floor access was possible.

Upon entering the Church, it did seem to feel quite calm, but as Richard was doing the introduction to the video, he noticed what he describes as a light formation coming from the corner of the room. This was unusual because the church is literally in the middle of a field and there are no roads near by.

Joe decided to conduct an E.M.F. experiment  to try and capture something on tape. But after reviewing it back later nothing was caught.

Not much seemed to happen for several hours until, Richard and Joe both heard a noise, this was unexplainable due to the isolation of the building, but after reviewing the tape, the noise could be heard quite clearly.

Nothing much else seemed to happen, but after reviewing the tape upon returning home, we noticed that there was a mist appeared on the camera. This wasn’t noticed at the time by Mike who was holding the camcorder at the time filming Richard. The Rotherham-ghosts team can confirm that there were no other mists caught during the evenings filming.

Conclusion:

Skidbrooke Church is still a great place to investigate, and the Rotherham-ghosts team would recommend it to anyone who may be interested in investigating the paranormal. However, we wouldn’t advise going alone for safety reasons.

The Video Report

Storths Hall, Huddersfield

Location: Storths Hall, Huddersfield

Date: 2 June 2007

Time: 1830 Hours

E.M.F. Reading: 0.0

Temperature reading: 9.0 Degrees Centigrade

Investigators: Richard, Joe, Mike

Equipment used: E.M.F, Digital Cameras, Night Vision Camcorders, Digital Voice Recorder, Thermometer, Torches.

Experiments: None

Over view:

The first part the building was opened in 1904 and completed about 1908.  It was then known as ‘Storthes Hall Asylum’.  It was fairly modern in comparison with many other hospitals which had previously been built. But in the 1980s the Hospital was to close its doors for the last time.

Rumors have it that the demolition company brought in to bring the hospital down to ground level, failed to do so after machinery mysteriously started to fail, so the building was left in it’s current state.

Other stories include a patient who allegedly murdered a nurse of the first floor and a figure of a man who wonders around the ground floor.

Now in 2007 the building is in a state of disrepair and the only visitors it gets now is the odd vandal and paranormal investigator.

The Investigation:

Upon arriving at the location, it was a warm clear night, we started by getting ourselves familiar with the area before settling down to conduct the vigil.

The main areas we were concentrating on were the main entrance hall where on previous visits a member of the group saw the figure of a man, whom disappeared through a doorway along with the upstairs corridor where the alleged murder took place.

While conducting the vigil at the man entrance, Mike had gone back to the car to collect some more equipment. This left Joe and Richard to start the investigation. Richard started to call out when all of a sudden the torch he was holding was knocked out of his hand for which he described as similar to an electric shock. We have been unable to explain why this happened or what caused it.

Richard and Joe went outside after this ordeal and Mike decided to go in alone with a camcorder. Whilst inside, Mike witnessed a number of bangs and a black object fly across the screen. After reviewing the video the team seem to think that the black object may have been a bat, but have been unable to explain the 2 bangs.

A further vigil took the team upstairs on to the main corridor, Mike was filming when he saw what he described as an arm poking through one of the doors further down the corridor through the view finder. Upon investigating this there was no explanation for the object seen. (Please see video footage)

Conclusion:

The Rotherham-ghosts team left Storthes Hall around 02:30 hours, quite surprised at the amount of activity that they seem to have witnessed during the night. The team hopes to re-visit the place again very soon to see if anything else happens.

Stoney Middleton

Location: Stoney Middleton

Date: 18 January 2008

Time: 21:45 Hours

E.M.F. Readings: 0

Temperature readings: 1.5 Degrees

Investigators: Richard and Mike

Equipment used: E.M.F, Digital Cameras, Night Vision Camcorders, Thermometer, Torches.

Overview:

Stoney Middleton has a number of caves buried in the deep valley rock face. Over the years many people have mined this site and lost their lives. Now in recent times, this is a place for walkers and cavers, but like many old places it seems to have it’s fair share of ghosts sightings.

This location was recently used in the popular series of Most Haunted.

The Investigation:

Upon arriving at the location, it was a cold night, and we set off up the valley side to try and find the caves, the weather was quite bad and a large amount of rain had fallen over the past few days.

We managed to find one of the caves and settled down to conduct the vigil.

Nothing much seemed to be happening until, so Mike decided climb up in the one of the smaller caves and carry out a solo vigil. It was quite high to climb up but he managed to do it, he spent quite a while up there alone and not much seemed to happen. Apart from Mike unable to breath properly.

Mike went outside while Richard conducted a lone investigation, but all was very quiet.

We went to look for the other caves, but due to the bad weather we were unable to gain access to them safely.

Conclusion:

The Rotherham-ghosts team left the Stoney Middleton around 0150 hours a little disappointed with their results of the evening.

Not much seemed to happen there and the place as a whole was very quiet. However we did decided that we would revisit the place in the summer when weather conditions were much better and try to gain access to the other caves.

The Rotherham-ghosts team would NOT advise anyone going up there after dark for health and safety reasons.

Sutton Scarsdale Hall, Derbyshire

Location: Sutton Scarsdale Hall, Derbyshire

Date: 11 January 2008

Time: 2315 Hours

E.M.F. Reading: 0.0

Temperature reading: 4.5 Degrees Centigrade

Investigators: Richard, Mike

Equipment used: E.M.F, Digital Cameras, Night Vision Camcorders, Digital Voice Recorder, Thermometer, Torches.

Experiments: Locked off camcorder

Overview:

Sutton Scarsdale Hall is a ruined stately home in Sutton Scarsdale, just outside Chesterfield, Derbyshire. A former Georgian mansion with gardens, it was built in 1724 to the designs of Francis Smith for the 4th Earl of Scarsdale. It has been roofless since about 1920 when parts of the building were dismantled and sold, some shipped to the USA.

The hall has the reputation to be a very haunted house; witnesses have seen disembodied floating body parts, footfall and strange tobacco smells, sometimes unexplained screams. Moving shadows have also been captured in the cellar area by paranormal Investigators.

The Investigation:

Upon arriving at the location, it was a very cold and windy night, we started by getting ourselves familiar with the area before settling down to conduct the vigil.

The main areas we were concentrating on were the cellars and main sheltered rooms of the hall.

Due to bad weather conditions, we initially started by locking off a camera pointing in to the cellars. The cellars are now closed off from public access, however there is a window at the base of the building which has bars on, so we could point the camera into the room. We left the camera rolling for just over an hour before we conducted vigils in the main building.

The main building, is open to the air, with no roof or windows in. We wondered around the house, when Richard noticed that there seemed to be a shadow on one of the walls. After investigating this further, it did appear to be a reflection of a tree from a street lamp.

After around an hour of filming we decided to take a break. During this break Mike heard what he describes as a Scottish man speaking to him. We did look around the house and grounds to see if there was anyone else there with us, but we couldn’t find anyone.

Conclusion:

The Rotherham-ghosts team left the area around 0045 hours a little disappointed with their results of the evening, due to the really bad weather conditions.

We still couldn’t explain what the voice was what Mike heard, and unfortunately the camera wasn’t rolling when it happening, the shadowy figures were explained by the street lights causing a shadow from a tree onto the wall.

Sutton Scarsdale Hall is a fascinating building and we encourage anyone who is interested in the paranormal to take a trip up there and have a look for themselves.

The Video Report

The Red Lion, Pontefract

Location: The Red Lion, Pontefract

Date: March 2007

Time: 1830 Hours

E.M.F. Reading: 0.2

Temperature reading: 12.4 Degrees Centigrade

Investigators: Richard, Joe, Mike, Wez

Equipment used: E.M.F, Digital Cameras, Night Vision Camcorders, Digital Voice Recorder, Thermometer, Torches.

Experiments: None

Over view:

Pontefract has had its fair share of stories over the last few years regarding alleged ghost sightings throughout the town. Rotherham-ghosts were quite excited when they were invited by the landlord to go and do an investigation in the Red Lion Pub over night.

The 1600 century building was originally a coaching Inn and residence before becoming a hotel. The hotel closed its doors around 50 years ago but the pub stayed open, However, the previous owners were plagued by strange happenings about 20 years ago so decided to screw shut every door on the 2nd floor heading towards the Great Hall along with the corridors leading to it, and all the doors on the 3rd floor, they stayed sealed until the new landlord took over in 2006.

Not deterred or worried by the local stories he re-opened the rooms, but by doing this opened up something else and the strange occurrences started to happen again. The current landlord says that he has experienced all sorts of strange happenings which include footsteps, objects being thrown, strange lights and dark shadows.

A medium visited the building and uncovered an alleged dark past which tied in some of the history of the building which included, the third floor being used as an illegal abortion clinic. A sole of a lost child in one of the hotel rooms and evidence of black magic taking place in the main hall.

When the Rotherham-ghosts team arrived, they were expecting the usual run of the mill pub investigation, but were shocked and surprised at the shear size of the building and the fact it had been closed up and untouched for so long, even the screw holes were still in the frames of the doors where the landlord had removed them.

The Investigation

Upon arriving at the location, it was a very mild night, we started by getting ourselves familiar with the building before settling down to conduct the evening investigations.

After Toby (The Landlord) showed us around, we decided to start in the main all, all the group felt that there was something in there, what many of us described as from another realm.

The Main Hall

We set the cameras up and as soon as they started to roll, orbs of all shapes and sizes seem to come from out of the mirror over the grand fire place. The temperature readings were going up and down and an uneasiness was felt by the team. Then both  Mike and Joe saw a large orb appear which we caught on camera.

Later on during the investigation, Joe said that he had seen a black shadow lurking around a door way in the great hall, but the camera didn’t pick anything up. All of a sudden, both Richard and Joe let out a shout. They had seen what they described as a figure appearing from the floor in the middle of the room, unfortunately the camera wasn’t pointing in the same direction, so we did capture anything on film.

The Priest Corridor

The team tried to get themselves comfortable, in what we all described has a very tense atmosphere, the feeling of being watched by something that clearly didn’t want us there. (Looking back it was quite amusing that 4 full grown men daren’t be in the place alone).  Again this place was very eerie and many orbs and strange noises were witnessed by the team. We didn’t spend much time in this location due to the very oppressive atmosphere.

Bedroom 14

The team spent time both inside and out of the room, the story is said that a young girl is trapped there. We all thought that the atmosphere was quite cal in there and nothing much seemed to happen, until went out into the corridor where orbs again were witnessed visually by the team, unfortunately not all of these were caught on tape, but we did manage to get some of them (see video)

The Attic

Not much was known about the attic, only that there was a presence of a man up there, after spending around a hour conducting a vigil in there the team decided there was not much happening but we’d leave a camera locked off just in case. Upon reviewing a total of 18 hours of footage of the night’s whole investigation, we found that in the attic where the camera was locked off, the door had actually opened and closed all by itself.

The Rotherham-ghosts team can confirm that there was no one in this room and the time.

Conclusion

The team left the Red Lion around 0400 hours, a little spooked to say the least at the nights events, we all agreed that this one of the most haunted places that we had investigated, not only by capturing things on film but actual feeling the atmosphere in the place.

Many strange things happened on the night that had no rational explanation, this was unlike any other investigation that we had ever been too.

Rotherham-ghosts would like to thank Toby for his hospitality and look forward to returning in the future.
