Angel Street, Sheffield
Schofield's an old department store (no longer standing?), Angel Street, Sheffield a shop worker saw in the boiler room a pair of feet which hovered a half a metre or so from the floor.
Ashdell Grove house, Westbourne Road, Sheffield
Attercliffe, Sheffield
A silent phantom army was seen by the river here in 1661 dressed in all white. The troops took more than an hour to pass by William Bloom, vicar of Attercliffe, who recorded the phenomenon in his diary.

White Lady and Monk

Further comments: This traditional white figure supposedly haunts the grounds of both the hall and the abbey. The latter location is also the home to a spectral monk who is seen to be walking through the building.
A sighting was seen by Nicola Entwisle and two friends from Sheffield while walking through the grave yard of Beauchief Abbey, a white figure appeared and was seen floating towards them, they described it as a woman with a pretty face, until she got closer and then she became quite ugly, the girls ran off very scared and when they looked back and the figure was still there but didn't leave the Abbey grounds.

Boggard Lane, Oughtibridge, Sheffield
This lane is said to be named after the entities which live (or lived) down there. A private house along the lane is also said to be haunted by a phantom woodworker.
Bishops House, Sheffield
The Bishops House
A ghostly grey lady would sometimes be seen looking out from the windows at visitors approaching the house, or the rocking chair in the house would mysteriously start rocking for no apparent reason.

Ghost of a dog

Further Comments: A phantom dog attacked one witness walking along this road - it bit his calf and clawed his back, leaving red weal’s. The man developed a high fever, but recovered after a spirit exorcism was performed.
Bunting Nook, Sheffield
The story is that two young lovers were eloping together on horseback. As they were jumping a fence, the horse fell and the lovers broke their necks. The lane is apparently haunted by the eloping lovers.
Many sightings have been seen of a man walking across the road to what is thought be a gate, but on approaching the apparition, there is no ghost or gate.
Carbrook Hall public house, Sheffield
A close friend and ally of Cromwell, the well built ghost of Colonel Bright has been observed standing at the top of the stairs. Other ghosts reported here include the sounds of children, an elderly woman from the 1920s, a phantom Roundhead, a monk, and another shadowy figure who throws items around the bar.
Castle House, Sheffield
The Castle House co-op is supposedly haunted by the ghost of the young boy who fell to his death from the stairs. Also the mother of the boy is also supposed to haunt the staff toilets. I work there and I've never seen anything although many others claim to have.
A young boy's face was seen in the screen of the freezer although the shop was closed. Another young boy was seen zooming through the closed warehouse on a bike and rode straight through the wall. The guy who saw this was in tears when he reported it so maybe it's true.
Chapeltown WW2 Soldiers
The alleged ghosts are said to be WWII soldiers, killed by bomb blast whilst on the train to the old tank factory in Chapeltown, Sheffield.

Local folklore has it that Clough Field in Crookes is haunted by the ghost of a Victorian-era boy. He has allegedly been seen running across the field at night.

A grey lady has been seen frequently wondering around in the civic centre, witnesses describe her as a frail.

One of the walls there used to be a door, but was bricked up years ago but a monk is said to be seen walking through the wall were the door used to be.

Norah the Maid

Further Comments: The maid, who committed suicide on the site two hundred years ago, is still said to wander the area. When the high school stood on the area, cleaning staff reported lights that would turn themselves on, amongst other strange phenomena. A priest was called to exorcise the land in 2003; it is too early to say whether he was successful.
Firvale Church yard, Sheffield
A ghost of a bride is said to haunt the churchyard at Fir Vale. A worker at a local takeaway opposite the church yard when he saw what he described as a woman sat on the bench with her head in her hands crying. Even stranger was the fact that she was in a full bridal dress - with the veil over her face.
Thinking it was someone from a fancy dress party he shouted across to her asking if she was alright or needed help, but she continued crying. With this he walked across the road and into the small yard and sat down next to her still asking if she was ok.
The minute he sat down he said he froze, like someone had thrown a bucket of ice over him. At the same time the bride lifted her head and looked at him - he raised the veil and was shocked to realise he was staring into nothing! There was no face, just a black space.
General Hospital, Sheffield The Vickers Corridor
At least two members of staff have reported the same 'dream' while sleeping in the staff room - they have awoken to see an angry matron-styled nurse with one hand over the witnesses mouth and the other hand around their neck, trying to strangle them. One witness kicked and screamed before the apparition vanished in the blink of an eye. Reported in 2003

A grey lady has been seen standing at the front of the church, but soon vanishes once she has been seen.

Lightwood House, Norton

I worked at Lightwood house at Norton for some years. That was a strange place. Kitchen area would have doors banging and the sounds of pots and pans being thrown about yet following morning nothing was damaged.
There was also a voice that said 'come in- take a seat' the cleaners did not like to clean that area on their own. Door handles turned for no reason. One night that I experienced, the cleaners said they had heard whistling in one of the top offices. We went up together thinking it was a client (learning disabilities) It was icy cold. Doors that had been locked were now open. I asked if there was anyone there. A voice answered, it sounded like a slowed down record player. We exited rather quickly.
There have also been many reports of seeing a gray lady and lights going on and off for no reason.
Loxley Common, Sheffield
Legend of Loxley Common,
Cave House possibly plays a part in the story, for on a bitterly cold day in 1812, when the sun set early, and low storm clouds hung over Loxley Common. In a lonely cottage on the bleak moorland, a mother sang over her sleeping baby. Lomas Revill, gamekeeper to the lord of the Manor, was late, and for his wife it was a weary vigil, relieved only by the visit of a woman friend from one of the cottages on the hillside. When she had gone Mary Revill watched the flickering uncanny shadows cast by the log fire, until eventually, weariness overtaking her, she nodded off to sleep.
Struggling fitfully the moon sought to pierce the heavy snow clouds, but with little success and the wind howled across the common. As the hours passed the storm mounted in intensity and blinding snow swept across the landscape until it was shrouded in a thick mantle of white. The following day was New Years Eve, and as morning broke, cold but fine, an acquaintance from the adjacent hamlet of Wadsley called to exchange the compliments of the day with the dwellers in the lonely cottage. The visitor knocked and knocked again, but getting no response she tried the latch and finding the door would open, she entered the room. A horrible sight met her eyes! Poor Mary Revill lay on the floor in a pool of blood-murdered! Whilst in the cradle near the body the baby lay fast asleep.
Outside the cottage the world was clad in white. During the night the snow had drifted all along the heath and piled itself upon the crags, which formed a rough boundary between Loxley Common and Wadsley Common. Leading from the cottage and right across the ridge and over the open common were large footprints, some partly obliterated by the drifting snow, but all leading in one direction, to a cave like well, on the crown of the hill overlooking the valley. The footprints went distinctly to the cave, into it and disappeared. Strangest of all, as far as can be discerned, there were no footprints leading out of the cave. When the news of this terrible crime spread around the neighbouring hamlets there was much weird speculation. Who was the murderer? What was the mystery of the footprints to the cave? Meanwhile, Lomas Revill had been found in the gamekeeper's cabin far out into the woods.
When told of the tragic death of his wife he accepted the news with little show of surprise or emotion. Though he had been seen in the village inn, much the worse for drink, on the night of the tragedy, no one could swear that the gamekeeper hadn't spent the night in his cabin. The moorland murder remained a mystery and for years the good folk of the area gave the cave a wide berth after night had fallen. As time went by, Lomas Revill became a strange man, prematurely aged with white hair, even though he was only forty-two years old. Another New Year's Eve came and once more the common was deep in snow. At the local inn someone remarked that he hadn't seen the gamekeeper for a number of day's so deciding to investigate, a number of men made up a party and went along to the cabin in the woods.
No trace could be found of Lomas until they tramped over the common to the old cottage, and there in an outbuilding, they found his body hanging from a rafter. Later a search of the cabin in the woods revealed a hunter's knife, rusted in gore, and a pair of blood stained gaiters. Folk who had known Lomas Revill well said that he had always acted strangely when New Year's Eve came round and that he had often been heard to mutter that he couldn't stand life any longer. Wanderers over the common and the lanes about, thought of Frank Fearn's gibbet, creaking in the wind on the Edge only a stones throw away and all but the stout hearted feared to pass at night lest they should hear the clanking of Frank Fearn's chains or encounter the ghost of that poor unfortunate mother. For many years afterward a number of cottages stood empty, falling into ruin, because of the common's association with the murder of Mary Revill, and were demolished in the clearances in the early 1900's.
The ghost of Mary Revill is said to roam the common, and is known as the White Lady. In THE SHEFFIELD INDEPENDENT of February 5th 1920 several people reported they had seen a woman in white, moaning, with her hands in the air gliding silently over the heath near the Worrall to Loxley Road near to the old pit workings, and again during the mid 1980's

Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield
A Security guard at Meadowhall and many of her colleagues have reported a number of alleged happening there, particularly about the service corridors behind the House of Fraser. Tales of ghostly figures whistling and people walking below the level of the floor, ‘allegedly on the old floor levels'.
A security guard for Sainsbury's supermarket was sure the place was haunted.
He used to bring in supplies from the back of the building into the long corridors and leave them in cages at the sides for staff to take them out. He said that more than once he had heard someone follow him down one of the corridors on his way in and out.
Most of the time when he was on his own he had heard someone walking around inside the building at the back and he even claimed to have seen a shadow move along the back wall shelves - and when he went to see who it was there was no-one there!!

An old lady has been seen wandering around the former Ward Eight, where she disappears when she walks through a wall. There are also stories of disembodied footsteps running on the stairs.

Further comments: Patrons of this pub reported seeing a ghostly cart being pulled by a horse, in turn being led by a farmer. The apparition would disappear at a nearby pond.

Reports of a man with his grass cutter is seen attempting to the grass when the grass hasn’t been cut properly.

This used to be an old cinema, reports of a child have been seen there, the story has it, the child fell from a balcony to their death.

Rumors have if that the tower has been exorcised once before after rumors of staff sightings of ghosts. By the sounds of it, they didn't get rid of everything.
Norton Church, Sheffield
Whether or not there are any modern witnesses to supernatural activity in Norton Church, Sheffield, is unknown, although an interesting tale was recorded by the folklorist S. O. Addy concerning a strange event which took place in the last century: 'About 1840 the parish clerk of Norton and his apprentice went to play the organ, then standing in the west gallery of the church. The apprentice, whose face was turned towards the nave of the church, told the clerk that he could see a woman sitting alone in one of the high cloth-covered pews, and that he believed she was spectral. Thereupon they both rushed frantically down the steps, which were very tortuous and awkward. The clerk would never again play the organ in church in the dusk of evening.'

Over 50 planes crashed in the
On a cold, clear night in
Witnesses saw a propeller-driven plane flying low. One farmer ducked instinctively as the plane passed over his head.
The aircraft seemed to be in difficulty, and they saw it apparently crash in the moors.
They called 999, and a rescue operation was launched, but no plane or crash was found despite the efforts of 100 police and volunteers.
Redmires Dam, Sheffield
A man was seen clear as day stood in the road of an on coming car, the driver swerved out of the way and ended up nearly hitting a wall, has the driver looked around to see the man again, he had vanished.
A car following not far behind, pulled up to assist and they described seeing a confined mist which was the same shape as a man.

To get home we drive through a place called Richmond near Handsworth, Sheffield, I was driving and my wife was in the passenger seat with our 6 year old child in the back, we were just passing the Richmond pub on our left, when a dark shadow like vehicle crossed our path from right to left about 50 yards in front of us.
I didn't say anything as I was speechless and thought I must be tired and just seeing things, until my wife turned to me and said. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" At that point I knew I wasn't seeing things so we began to try and make sense of what had just happened.
My wife said she saw what looked like an old fifties shape car, Black flat roof similar to the type used around the Bonnie and

The bench at Ford in Ridgeway Sheffield/Derbyshire near Mosbrough, the bench its situated just past the pond at the bottom facing the trees and greenery where the kids usually run and play around a smell of tobacco if often smelt there as if someone is stood quite close who is a heavy smoker, a bit like the smell was hung in their clothes.

Spinkhill to Kilamarsh Road, Sheffield
In the dark dip in the road that leads from Spinkhill to Killamarsh just before Rose Cottage. Sightings have been seen of a big black dog that only appears at 12.00 to lone drivers that think they have hit it and stop.
Spring Healed Jack, Attercliffe, Sheffield
Spring Heeled Jack (AKA, The Park Ghost) who was reputed to jump around 30 or so feet in the air in Victorian times.
He has supposedly seen by a large number of people (independently) in the 70s around Attercliffe area.
There's one story about people complaining about someone on the roofs on a couple of streets in the area, two police officers gave chase and cornered a man in a yard. He then walked up one of the walls, and was last seen jumping over the rooftops to get away, clearing gaps of about 30-40 feet with no problem at all.
Various rumours have him with red eyes and cloven feet as well.

St Marys Church, Sheffield
St Marys church in the Ecclesfield center of the village is reportedly haunted by a monk dressed in black robes and also a room within the Ecclesfield Church priory is reported to be haunted by an invisible evil entity or presence, she said that when a dog was locked in the room it would not stop barking and howling, and when the owner opened the door the dog was snarling and looking at some invisible force.
Stocksbridge Bypass, Sheffield
The Stocksbridge Bypass was constructed towards the end of the 1980’s to alleviate the huge amount of traffic that flowed through the town, costing well over £14,000,000 to build. The project was undertaken by the McAlpine construction company and completed in April 1988. The road, used by thousands of motorists each day as it is a direct link between the cities of
The workman, who slept on site kept reporting children’s voices and laughter in the dead of night only to find nothing when they got up to investigate. Following on from that, a group of children were seen to be dancing in a circle around a huge pylon that over looks the bypass only to disappear in front of astonished witnesses.
Two police officers were then assigned to the case and on the night of the 11th of September they too began a vigil at the site to see if they could find anything to explain the men’s strange tale. They had been there for a 
while when one of the offices had a very strange, cold feeling wash over his body, ‘as though someone had walked over my grave’. A split second later the officer became aware of a presence at the side of him outside the vehicle. He saw a figure straight outside the car window and, almost simultaneously, his colleague also felt the presence of a figure at his side of the car. The officer gave out a scream and the figure was gone. The two hardened police men got out of there car and did an extensive search of the surrounding area but found nothing, no footprints, nobody messing around, nothing. The two officers drove a little further down the site and again pulled up, it was here they experienced the most frightening part of the night. Their car was slammed from behind as though they had been hit by something. A quick investigation revealed nothing so the men climbed back into the car only to experience it twice more. After this, the two officers drove back to the station, more than a little spooked and made a full report.
Since then hundreds of separate witnesses have come forward over the years since construction was complete to recount tales of strange monk-like apparitions on the road side, feelings of ‘a presence’ whilst driving along the road and other odd tales.

Templeborough, Sheffield
Many workers had heard stories of this old place including the security guards - there was one particular gruesome story about a man who jumped into a ladle because he knew he was going to die from cancer and he was supposed to haunt the building.
A visitor also said that when he worked there, there was always a cold spot where another man hung himself. Other ghosts have been seen there too around the office buildings on the stairs and in the corridor.
The Old Sheffield College Building, Sheffield
The old
Whilst cleaner was cleaning the toilets a woman walked out of a cubicle and walked down the corridor, the cleaner tried to talk to her but was ignored. The woman figure just disappeared further down the corridor 'apparently' this is where a woman died years earlier when something smacked her on the head.
The Ship Inn, Shalesmoor
The "Ship Inn " in Shalesmoor, not only have a resident ghost "Charlie" he pinches the black pool ball, they also have roman soldiers visiting from time to time mainly seen passing through the cellar walking approx 1mt above floor level, according to old folklore the old roman road passed this way.

A brewery training officer who asked to be shown around began to shiver and sweat on entering the cellar, and after being taken back upstairs made her excuses to leave -only to have four days off work ill to recover. A young painter who was working in the cellar passed out there, blaming it on the 'flu, although strangely he was fine as soon as he left the building. Another contractor who was working in the cellar left in a hurry after saying that 'something' had touched him on the shoulder. He left his tools and sent someone else to finish the job. Several other people have since felt a mysterious, gentle hand being placed on their shoulder.
None of the cats and dogs who have been in residence at the Three Tuns over the years have dared venture near to the wooden steps in the cellar. Indeed, many people (even those who know nothing of the pub's haunted history) express a strange reluctance to venture in this area of the pub. The sobbing of an unseen woman emanates from this very place, her distressed voice being heard between the hours of
Underground Carpark, West One, Sheffield
A witness was emptying the bins in the underground car park, has they pushed the door open with there foot, they saw what they describe as a man in his 50's, with a grey beard dressed in black was stood there.
The door closed back too, but upon opening it again, the figure had gone.
Wadsley Common, Sheffield
The mystic visitor so the story goes, is a woman in white who glides about silently and now and again raises her arms in lament or imprecation (Cursed). Some say she occasionally moans as if in trouble.
According to the villagers the ghost appears to have its home on Wadsley Common - a wild hilly, crag strewn waster, over grown with braken and heather, and clothed with trees in parts and haunts the vicinity of the Worrall to Loxley Road, near the old pit workings. Folk who claim to have encountered the ghost.
Westwood Dam Tunnel
The Screaming Boy, Westwood Dam Tunnel – Screams are heard from the tunnel that runs between Westwood Dam and the Ochre Pond. If you’re brave enough you can walk from one side to the other. Story goes that a boy was trapped by floodwaters in the tunnel and sadly drowned. There have also been another three deaths in the dam itself which includes, a traveling woman and her baby, and an elderly man - both suicides. A very eerie but peaceful place.
