In the early 1970's my late Mother was working as a cleaner at ’The Alpine' public house in Rotherham. It had only just been built and was modelled in the style of a Swiss cottage. After a few weeks my Mum started seeing a strange hooded figure around the pub particularly near the bar. These sightings were early morning when the pub was empty. Bar staff also reported sightings of the figure which could not be explained.
Around 1974 the old landlord left and was replaced by a young couple with a small daughter. At the age of eighteen I started work there as a barmaid. On Wednesday nights I doubled as baby sitter and stayed overnight so the couple could stay out late on their night off and not worry about coming home late. One evening I was awakened by the sound of the couple’s pet dog crying at my door. I went to investigate and it was obvious he wanted me to follow him downstairs into the pub.
Fearing there may be an intruder I went after him. However, he would not cross the doorway into the pub and he started to growl and all his fur stood on end. Any other time he would have raced into the bar to look for empty crisp packets to tear apart.
I peered into the darkness and could see a grey mist in the middle of the bar area, near the main light switch panel. Taking a deep breath I marched along the bar and as I reached the mist I had the sensation of walking through cold water. I turned on all the lights to could find nothing. The dog remained behind the door.
The following day I mentioned to the landlord and he asked me not to mention it to his wife and daughter as he too had a strange experience a few days earlier. He had been walking down the stairs one evening to bring change for the till. He felt someone or something pass him on the stairs and a rush of cold air, it had unsettled him quite a bit.
Sometime later a relief landlord was so disturbed after a friend of him tried to conduct a seance at the pub and suffered a heart attach while doing so. He asked a local vicar to exorcise the place.

Many years later my Mum was ill in hospital with a bad throat infection and so could not speak. One evening while I was sitting with her she starting telling me the spirit from the pub had spoken to her and told it was Henrietta who had once live near where the pub had been built. She was unhappy because her Father and brother used to drink and come home drunk and beat her. She went through a list of village pubs in Greasbrough, some of which did not exist When I asked Mum about the incident she could not remember speaking to me about it. I later went to the local library and found that one of the pubs she spoke about had stood near the existing pub 'The Yellow Lion' but had been pulled down more than a hundred years before and this was not common knowledge to non historians.
The story Mum told me and my husband that evening at the hospital will always be a mystery. She used strange old fashioned language that I had never heard her use before and never did again. She spoke of 'Ole Chris the cow'erdsman' and places she could not have known about.
I will never forget the experience.

Janets story in her own words.
I had always been aware of spirit but had dismissed it as my imagination and had asked them for proof prior to my visit to
It was May bank holiday and my self and my friend were there on a residential course. Our room was front facing over looking the front entrance first floor.
Went to bed at 11 and I was woken at
I then heard a voice say its spirit you needed proof we are here this is your proof.
All of a sudden my fear subsided and I lay back down in the bed. I couldn't move but was aware of a strong presence around me. I was aware of my body being elevated and hands touching me particularly around my feet area.
Whilst all this was going on I seemed to be looking down a kaleidoscope and saw a women dressed in duck egg blue with an ostrich feather in her hair and a Gentleman dressed in a black tuxedo with dicky bow chinking champagne glasses as if they were having a toast. There was a grand piano behind them.
I remember thinking what is going on and trying to move but was unable to do so. My friend got up to go to the loo at 2.45 and on her return to the room commented on the state of my bed half a sleep i murmured that I had experienced a nightmare and that was probably why the bed was disheveled she then turned on the light and told me not to move and look and as God is my witness I was utterly amazed.
The sheets were tightly tucked under me and the top sheet was folded back over the bottom bedding in a perfect line like it was starched. My arms had been crossed over my chest and the sheet had been perfectly pleated around each and every toe.
I was shattered and felt like all my energy had been drained and drifted back off to a deep sleep. My friend stayed awake all night as she felt worried by the activity.
I got out of bed the next day but the area where my feet had been still looked like some ones feet were there and the sheets would not lay flat.
I went down to breakfast very un-nerved. But was strongly compelled to return to the room alone. Nervously I went in to the the room and was aware of a multitude of energies wall to wall, though I could not see them. As I entered I said its OK I know you are there now and i will work for you if you show me how. The sheets flattened and the feet were no more.
I returned home the next day and as I got in to my house the phone rang. it was my local spiritualist church offering me a place on a development course which I accepted and in 6 week I was working churches and pubs and clubs. I am now also a well known deep trance medium though I have never sat for trance and the gift was brought to me.

I have not shared this experience up to now but I was hoping you may have some info which would either confirm my theory or tell me something about the house and other sightings/experiences there. If not I hope me sharing this with you has helped you in some way in your journey to work with and understand the other side of life.
My girlfriend and I were sat in a lay by where the 24hour transport cafe is at the bottom of Stockbridge bypass towards junction35a, about a year ago.
We were just sat talking and having something to eat, we were at the top end of the lay by away from the café, just ahead of us were 2 Lorries but no one about.
Suddenly there was a loud knocking on the top of the car, I immediately jumped out of the car and looked around it, thinking someone playing tricks but no one was anywhere to be seen.
I got back in the car and the same happened again. I quickly started the car and drove off, as I pulled away there was one final bang.
We have been back since but it has never happened again.

Hello, I live in Dinnington, I’ve lived here all my life. I've been for walks several times in Anston stones woods.
There is a cave there known as "dead mans cave" above a rock face. About 5 years ago I was walking there with my friend and her cousin and we decided to go to dead man's cave. As we were just standing in the opening to the cave there was a sudden flash of light, we ran and we all noticed a rugged figure following us. We couldn't see the face of the person as they had an old big hat on, it was also dressed in a brown long dirty coat, similar looking to a tramp.
When we reached the open land outside the woods we turned around and the figure had disappeared. We scanned everywhere with our eyes, nothing. I know there are several non supernatural possibilities for this, however I am sure this was an unearthly sighting. This is honestly not a fake story, I’m telling the truth, unfortunately I am no longer friends with the other two but it was one of the most awful feelings of my life.
Before telling her about this sighting, another of my friends about 2 years ago, mentioned she had seen the figure of a girl in the back of dead mans cave which appeared, then disappeared. I'm not sure if this is the truth or not, but she is a friend that I trust a lot.
It would be very much appreciated if you could let me know what you think to this.
Response from Rotherham-ghosts
Rotherham-ghosts have visited this site and conducted an investigation, not much happened during the investigation, but has we were finishing off the video; footsteps of something heavy came from the same area as you describe.
It is a very strange place to visit and we will be going back again some time.
The video will be uploaded on to the site during October 2007 in the investigations section.
This picture was taken from a reel of film. Danny Sulivan, an architect paid just £15.00 for a dusty canister of cine film in a small British junk shop. In the old trunk was a photograph of an Angel and a number of letters. The cine film itself, shows Angels forming a cruciform shape with their bodies in mid-air.

I want to start off by telling you my own true ghost story.
My story happened about 3 years ago, and I feel that I need to tell you the background for my story in order for you to get the full picture of what was happening in my apartment. So I must warn you that this is an extremely sad story.
Soon after I moved into an apartment in
One day one of her little boys supposedly left her apartment and went to play at another child’s home. He never came back. I knew right away that Mike had something to do with the missing 6 year old. So many times I have heard stories from other family members and Shalonda herself about how abusive Mike was to all three of her kids, but he was especially abusive towards the boy that came up missing, because he knew that the child was not really his even though Shalonda claimed he was.
When the child came up missing everyone in the family was to scared of Mike to talk to the cops. This pissed me off because if someone was brave enough to call the cops before then this child would still be here today. So I decided to help with the investigation. I told the cops everything I knew, and met with them almost everyday for nearly a week. Day's went by and a huge search effort was made to comb the creek that ran through the apartments where Shalonda lived. I knew the child was not going to be in the creek and told the cops to check out Mike's car for evidence. For some reason they waited a week to check his vehicles and just continued to search the creek even though Mike was now the number one suspect. Finally on the night they decided to call off the search of the creek they went to one of Mike many girlfriends home and checked out Mike's car. When they opened up the trunk there was the Childs body wrapped up in a blanket. Mike had beaten the boy to death with a pole from the closet. The child was so badly beaten that he could only be identified by the blanket. And so my ghost story begins.
During the week of the investigation strange things started to happen in my apartment. For instance, I was sitting at my computer reading news about the case online when I heard something rustling next to me. It was a box of books that I had sitting next to my computer desk. I couldn’t see anything moving in it but I could hear it. I thought there may be a bug or something down in the box so I started to pull the books out to try and find whatever it was to squish it. I found nothing at all. Then later that night when I went to bed I heard what I thought was my toddler son up and rummaging through the toy box in his room, so I got up to put him back to bed, but my baby was fast asleep in his bed. I stood there for a minute wondering what I had heard , when the rummaging sound happened again rite in front of me. I could clearly hear the toys being moved around as if a child was digging through it looking for a certain toy, but again I couldn’t see anything moving at all.
Over the next few days both of those experiences repeated it's self daily but now I could feel myself being watched. I knew I was not alone. I tried not to be frightened by these things because I knew they were coming from the missing child. I guess is he was drawn to my home because my husband and I were the only people in the family with enough balls to talk to the cops and try and find this child.
Then something really strange happened the night the boys body was found. My husband and I were watching TV. when we distinctly heard a melodious tone come from a toy piano in my sons room. It was a very specific noise that couldn’t be confused with anything else in the apartment. The piano played a short little song when it was turned on or when it shut it's self off after being on and not played with for a few minutes. You may be wondering why this is so strange being that I had a child in the house.
Well you see about 2 months before the batteries had ran out of the piano and I removed them ! Plus my son was already asleep in his bed. The second I heard the piano go off I ran into my sons room and grabbed it and then shot to the kitchen to retrieve a screwdriver. I ran back into the living room and told my husband to open up the battery casing and make sure there were no batteries in it. There wasn’t!
Now I should let you know all of this happened very fast. From the time we heard the piano do its little ditty until the time my husband had removed the battery casing from the toy was only a matter of maybe 20 to 30 seconds. Almost as soon as we got the casing off and had just enough time to shoot each other a WTF look someone knocked on my front door. It was my mother in law, and she was crying. She told us that the police had just found the body in Mike's trunk.
Damn that was ironic that the moment we heard the toy go off is almost the exact moment my mother in law was headed across the parking lot from her apartment to ours to give us the news don’t you think? After my husband and I had cried for a while and had calmed down a bit we began to talk about how strange it all was. We came to the conclusion that it was the child’s way of thanking us for helping the police to find his body and put Mike away, and that he was also probably saying goodbye to us.
We were wrong. The child wasn’t ready to leave yet, but nothing else happened that night. The next few days was quiet. A few days later my husband went to the funeral, but I stayed home because I didn’t feel comfortable taking my small child to it. He was just to little to understand what was going on with the little boy he had played with just a few months ago, or why everyone was sad and crying. Anyways that night we went to bed around
I decided not to turn over and just closed my eyes tight. Eventually I fell asleep. I must have been asleep for only and hour or so when I woke up with the same uneasy feeling that if I turned over I was going to see something I didn’t want to see. I laid there for a few minutes debating whether or not I was going to look and see if something was there.
Then I finally found the guts to do it. What the f@$ is that I said out loud. I grabbed my husbands arm and yanked him one time so hard he immediately woke up. Again I said what the f@$% is that, but this time to my husband Jeremy. Then he saw what I was freaking out about. In the open door frame of our bedroom was a flipping huge ball of pulsating blue light near the ceiling. It must have been bigger than one of those huge colorful balls you can buy at the grocery store for your kids. The thing must have been there for at least a minute and a half just pulsating in the doorway before if vanished. I kept asking my husband to reach over and switch on the bedside lamp but we were both frozen in fear for a minute.
Finally he reached over and clicked the switch of the lamp. The second he did all of the electricity in the whole building went out! No shit, every apartment in our building had lost it's electricity, and didn’t get it back until around
I wouldn’t even go to the bathroom because Jeremy was at work and couldn’t go with me, and the bathroom was directly in front of my bedroom. My son was still in diapers and didn’t need to go into the bathroom either. Of course when Jeremy got home from work I was about to bust so I had him go into the bathroom with me. The first thing we noticed was that the mirror was fogged up like someone had just taken a hot shower, but no one had been in the bathroom for at least 9 hours. Then we noticed that there was a handprint in the fog on the top left hand side of the mirror. It was the handprint of a small child, clear as day. We racked our brains trying to find a cause for it. We ruled out that it was the handprint of our own child because it was to large to be our Exzavior's.
He was only 1 year old at the time and was too short to even see himself in the mirror let alone touch it. This was the last time we saw evidence of Shalonda's dead child visiting us. I guess the handprint he left was his way of saying goodbye.
You may be wondering why I am still avidly seeking ghosts when this so clearly freaked me out. The answer is that I find the paranormal fascinating and cant wait to have more ghostly experiences , but just not in my own home. I would of been fine if it would to us anywhere else. It's just that it is a thoroughly creepy feeling knowing that there is someone there that you cant see watching you, even if it is a precious little boy. When I was a little girl I lived in a haunted house, but I was too young to understand the things going on in my house , so I don’t have much memory of those things. As I grew up and I became obsessed with the prospect of ghosts. I use to think about how cool it would be to live in a haunted house, and have hardcore ghostly experiences. I still do want to have more encounters with ghosts, but just not in my own house. I will probably always hunt for another encounter with a spirit, but I pray it wont be in my own home.

I was on a BMX and as I was crossing the bridge and riding down the road when I saw a man who stepped out in front of me and screamed and screamed in my face as I was passing. I panicked thinking he was going to abduct me or something. So I peddled my bike so fast I nearly came off it.
But when I looked back there was nobody there at all, and nowhere he could have gone to hide either as there were walls on either side of the road with fields after them. I can remember that this man, although I was on my bike was very wet and I thought nothing too much of it.
When I got home I told my parents as well as my friend that evening. I will never forget that day as it is a story I tell often to people in the pub or in general but tonight I have been rather spooked by it as I have read about a man that allegedly killed himself at Ulley.
I wanted to share my story with you after reading this. This happened 20 years ago but I will never forget it and I remember it as though it was yesterday.

I was working at Christmas job as a warehouse operative in late 2003, after a week or so I kept getting the strange feeling I wasn’t alone, I dismissed as me being daft.
I was in the tea room one day and one of the girls came in making a fuss about being in the warehouse alone. I asked what was up with to the manager, He then explained the warehouse was haunted, he went on to tell me that they had tried to exorcise the sprit three times and had not had any joy. I took all this with a pinch of salt I thought they were trying to scare the new lad.
Time passed very little happened there was still the eerie feeling that you weren’t alone and you would some times hear footsteps which I put down to noises from the shop floor or people in the corridor outside, The only thing that really made me jump was if some of the nosier toys set off or fell off there self.
One thing about this shop you need to know is that at Christmas and new year you could get any thing up to 40 cages worth of stock these cages would be pushed together in a large square with a gap of one or two centimeters maximum.
I’d worked all Christmas and I was coming to the end of my contract early January, I’d been down stairs filling some shelves at the back of the shop and decided to go up the far stairs and in through the ware house back door, I opened the door to see a large black shadow like figure moving between the cage, I stood there a few moment but it felt like a life time watching the figure glide between the cages. I walked back down stairs trying to process what I had seen.
Later on I went back to where I was stood to try and explain it to my self, I knew it wasn’t my shadow due to the placement of the lighting casting my shadow in a different direction and the fact this figure was moving while I was still. Soon after I left the shop and never did find out what I saw.

About 1963, this building was put up for sale and a photographer was sent to take pictures of this old building.
At the time the hall was locked and most of the furniture and other effects were removed. The photographer - I've forgotten his name, also did a lot of freelance work for Sheffield Newspapers. He set up a large plate camera on the front lawn and two pictures. He took the plates home to his darkroom, developed and printed them and noticed a figure at one of the windows. He blew the window right up with the enlarger and printed it.
It was the figure of a man dressed in 17th century clothes!
Some time later, an old painted portrait was found and the figure corresponded with the photograph. Sheffield Newspapers ran the story which could still be on their archives.

One summer evening we had just finished choir practice and we had just left the church. However one of our little group - Barry Hunter, was still in the church. He suddenly ran out of there screaming; he was a white as a sheet and it took some time for him to calm down. Our Vicar, the Rev J Murphy was with us at the time. He managed to calm Barry down, who was only about 12 at the time, the same age as myself.
He eventually told our Vicar that he had seen the figure of a monk coming out behind the organ and then walking down the main nave of the church. What terrified him was that the figure appeared to be walking about 6 inches above the old stone floor.
There were often tales heard about that old church. How people would suddenly hear the organ being played and when they went into the church, it stopped and no-one was there. Then there was the sound of a Gregorian Chant.

They turned right at the church gate and Mum followed them shortly afterwards - she was only yards behind them and they were plainly visible to her all the time. She continued to follow them and they turned as if they were going up the steps to her friend's house. This greatly alarmed her as she was worried that her friend's health had worsened or that the very worse had happened whilst we were there. She called out Reverend Challen's name as she wanted to know what was wrong, and with this, they simply walked through and melted into the wall. She was obviously quite scared by the turn of events and rushed inside, which is when Albert asked her if she was OK. She hadn't told him what she had seen as she didn't want to scare them - it was their house they'd walked into! We never saw Mum's friend again as she died very soon afterwards.

I remember my dad telling me years ago about a plane crash in Rawmarsh. My dad used to work for my aunty and uncle. “Many older folk will know them as Speight Tripe at Parkgate”. They own a field at the back of Rawmarsh church which used to home hundreds of chickens. My dad “a young lad at the time” and aunt were in the field tending to the chickens and saw a plane crash at the bottom of the field. It turned out that the pilot had got lost and got into some difficulty and crashed and he died on impact.
About 3 years ago I was working at Rawmarsh church and the lantern master gave me a tour of the tower, upon doing so he told me a story about the ghost of a disheveled pilot who has been seen walking in to the church looking some what lost.

I recently went walking along an old railway line in Thurgoland and came to an old railway tunnel, I walked through it finding myself to feel slightly uncomfortable. On the way back through it I felt a sudden drop in temperature around me, and then when I got about half way through it I was directly under one of the lights and it went off. I went back the same day when it was dark with a few friends; the lights in the tunnel were still lit at this time as they don't go off until
A couple of nights later three of us decided to wait until after midnight to go to the tunnel so the lights would be off, so armed with a torch each we ventured back to the tunnel. When we got in there we walked about a quarter of the way through then in a line lent against the wall and switched off the torches. One of the lads said out loud "If there's anyone here who'd like to make contact please give us a sign, we're not here to harm you, show yourself". At this point nothing happened so we went along to the other end of the tunnel. When we got up near the other end we did the same again only this time when he said it I suddenly felt an extreme drop in temperature, all the right hand side of my body was numb it was that cold, even my elbow which I had tucked into my side. I turned to the right so I was stood facing the cold spot and it slowly started to move across my front. Then I got what felt like someone lightly holding onto my left wrist. I told one of the lads to put his hand in front of me to see if he could feel the cold spot, he said he could feel it immediately.
After that we started to make our way back through the tunnel to go home the other mate who was with us starts to feel choked up and couldn't breathe properly. We got out of the tunnel and walked back down the old railway bed and back to the car!

Location: Manor Farm, Rawmarsh, A private property in Rawmarsh (Details undisclosed at the owners request)
Some of my friends moved into at a property in Rawmarsh with their 3 young sons, and witnessed some strange things happened including house work being done, milk brought in and various cleaning jobs done around the house...it seemed to be a friendly ghost.
However, after returning home one evening having left the 2 boys with a baby sitter, he looked up at the window and could see one of his sons stood in an upstairs window with the sitter, when he rushed in obviously concerned about their safety he found all 3 sleeping on the couch.
After making inquiries regarding the previous family who lived there, it transpired that the last 2 families had also witnessed this strange behavior and a total of 3 exorcisms had taken place, but this had no effect on it. Their experience of it was of a violent presence in the house which included knives and plates being thrown across the room.

A friend of mine moved house for only one reason,”It was haunted” they moved from a nice street in Brampton Bierlow, to a less desirable area in West Melton, when I asked why, she was rather sheepish but explained that she had seen an old lady walk through her bedroom, and that her 2 year old son often came running into her bedroom saying there was an old lady in his room. Because of this the young boy would never go upstairs alone.
Since moving to another property the young boy has settled and now plays upstairs alone and has no problems.
